Accustomed to my face
Jun 03, 6:05 pm

I am such a customisation junkie. I think it might be a bit of a girl thing although I’d love to have this contradicted by any guy who likes to get his hair just right in a game. I’ve always been a sucker for any game with loads of customisation. My Stargate SG1 crew all living in barracks that I created in The Sims 2 were a sight to behold… well right up until Teal’c got pregnant with an alien baby and General O’Neil died in a kitchen fire but lets draw a veil over that episode for now.

No, it’s not creating characters from hit sci-fi shows that really gives me that sense of satisfaction that comes after hours of nipping and tucking as a characters face and hair, it recreating my fine self, of course. There’s no point in pretending it’s not vanity because of course it is although I will say that I don’t actually have a mirror in my house as such so I’m not exactly Narcissus. In fact now I come to think about it maybe I keep making myself in games so I can remember what the hell I look like. My real excuse though is that customising a character to look as much like yourself as you can manage is a good way to gauge how good the customisation in a game really is.

Almost every game affords some level of personalisation these days not that I’m expecting to be able to make Rayman look just like me although I have been known to be limbless on occasion and I do love my Raybans in GRAW multiplayer - just what you need in the searing heat and dust. For me though, I want the whole shebang. I want to be musing over a wide variety of shades of blonde hair. I want to be measuring the width of my nostrils to within a millimetre. I really can’t afford to play Oblivion - I just don’t have the time.  But of course, I had to at least make an Elven Kitt ... and Rumble Roses might be a rather tawdry affair but you can make a rather fetching avatar. It just goes to show I will play ANYTHING if only to get the chance to play dress up dollies.

Here’s a few examples of in-game Kitt’s. Don’t forget to post your own, or your creations of favourite hit sci-fi show characters if you’re just too modest to make yourself in game form. Can’t wait to see all your creations on the blog discussion thread on the forum.
