Chocobo Tales: My life as a giant chicken
Jun 03, 6:05 pm

I wondered how long it would be before I got to play another game that had such a wide age range appeal as Lego Star Wars. This week I’ve been playing Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales and I’m stunned by how instantly addictive it is considering it seems to be aimed at 5 year olds. It has a brilliantly wide variety of different game play elements. There’s exploration as you run around all different environments on an island. There’s a tons of mini-games that you work through to unlock elements of the story and new areas in the island. You can also win cards to play against bosses in card game battles. All of this is set in a world based on the Final Fantasy series. There are monsters and characters we know and love and… and here’s the best bit… the music is classic FF - from the title tune, the chocobo racing music, to the battle win theme. It’s like the whole game is a training ground for future Final Fantasy players!

Creating a game that will appeal to young children and adult hardcore gamers is not an easy thing to pull off. With the exception of the great Lego Star Wars and possibly Pokemon, Chocobo Tales is one of the few games to manage it. If you see a copy with its big cute yellow chocobo face plastered over the front don’t dismiss it. Pick a copy up. Kweh!
