I always remember being advised to play DVDs on the Xbox, not the PS2. It was one of those nuggets of wisdom pushed upon me that I chose to follow and obey. I did not want to tire out my PS2 disc drive, and I certainly wanted to bask in the glory of the exciting new Xbox.

Faced with this dilemma in the next gen, 360 or PS3, I have to choose PS3. I do not want my DVD watching experience to be over ridden by a loud obnoxious whir. The constant purr of fans and disc spin generated by the 360 are all too much for the subtleness of slobbing out in front of a good movie.

Since the return of my 360 (which was taking a brief repair-holiday with Microsoft) I have found it less wonderful then I remember. This is not to say that I do not like it, or do not think that it is good, but just that I have had time to accustom myself to the PS3. The 360 is noisy, heavy, and encumbered with cables. The PS3 is shiny with light controllers, tidy, and quiet.

This is a great turning point for me as I hardly used my PS3 when it first arrived - seeing little point since the 360 was doing everything I needed it to. However, I can now appreciate both, and as great games await me on each platform I look forward to an even spread of my time between Sony and Microsoft (with just a smattering of Nintendo for good measure).
