Hyde Park Penguin
Jul 07, 1:40 pm

As the swell began to grow I jumped on my board and paddled hard. Before I knew it the swell was a giant wave, a super challenge. I flipped myself onto the board and pushed into the wave, launching into the air and racking up the points. The other surfers were close by but I was not bothered by their progress as I knew this win would be on points alone. My jumps were getting better and my tricks more spectacular until suddenly I found myself in the tunnel.

Stay clam I thought and as the screen flashed button combinations at me all I could feel was ‘X, Y’, ;’X, A’, and finally ‘X, B’. I completed the perfect corkscrew gaining myself a mere 3000 points and headed for the finish line, which of course I cleared with a breath taking-ly cool jump. Not bad for a penguin.

Being at Hyde Park Calling last week was a very fun experience. It was the first time I’ve been showing off a “childrens” game and as with all the best kids games it was handing out achievements every three minutes and keeping me smugly occupied. Surfs Up‘s surfing penguins are really cute, the levels were full of jumps, grinds and gates which allowed you to play them in a different way every time, and beating other peoples high scores in split screen is addictive.

The younger members of the festival loved it, the girls loved it, and most of the boys loved it. Well I say most because some said that they only play FPSs and didn’t really give it their best effort, and thus got beaten horribly by a girl!

I topped my day off by handing out colouring books to bright eyed youngsters, tee-shits to those who got over 25000 points, and Ubisoft ponchos to the dripping crowd. It was a really nice day with a great vibe, helped by our copious amount of winners, and my consumption of free Krispy Cremes!
