Teaching standard 3.3.10
Aug 07, 1:40 pm

As a Frag Doll and a science teacher, I feel it is my duty to engage with this standard to the best of my ability. I mean we can all slap a bit of PowerPoint into a lesson, but how can I get the pupils gaming and make it relevant?

I was considering the wonder of a Mario Kart time trial to get pupils working with the equation speed = distance / time. Maybe a little Puyo Pop to show how molecules in a melting solid can slide over one another. Or anything involving a rocket ship to show that an accelerating force must be applied to move an object forward - perhaps geometry wars. Prince of Persia will fit in perfectly to the new quantum physics and time travel module just recently added to the nation curriculum ... (ok so that one may not exist up to GCSE.)

I am currently investigating the age old maths problem of “if a train leaves Kings cross at 17.49 and travels due north 64mph and another train leaves some other station at some other time and travels east at 29mph, what time do I get home”

Yes, I have completed my teacher training, and am now off towards Scotland. Back home to a world full of haggis, mountains, highland cows, tartan, and most importantly my flat full of gaming equipment. I am thoroughly looking forward to not having to use a stylus to get my gaming fix, and if I choose to do so actually having enough spare time to spend a while enjoying it. I yearn for meaty console pads and a TV to appreciate it all on. I also yearn for conversation with people who know that GTA does not always stand for General Teaching Council!

Anyways, get the kettle on, Sarin be home.
