The Joy of Last Week
Feb 06, 1:40 pm

Last week I went to see Real Big Fish… they are a punk band for those of you who don’t know. (I’m trying to sound patronising here so you will all think I knew who they were before I went.) The first support band was good; a little rough around the edges but pretty fun, thus skanking was partaken in. (That’s the way you dance to ska punk for all you n00bs…. See how I continue with the patronising.) The second support band was great. A little less ska and a lot more cursing!

I knew the bouncers in the club so they let me stand in front of the railing to watch. I decided to push this privilege by running off to the band room for the banter and fame!

This is when disillusionment kicked in. The band members were not cool… they were dull, very, really, truly, dull. The lead singer who had just been on stage, screaming at the fans, prancing about with no shirt on, and sweating like a mad man, burst in to announce that ‘it’s really hot out there guys, be careful you don’t over-heat. Oh and we spilt some water on the stage so watch out’. Celery was then handed out and Harry Potter plot lines discussed… I kid you not.

I was disgusted, what has punk come too? This is just horrific, and all on a Monday night, well clearly I had no hope for the rest of the week.

But I was wrong.

My week in fact turned out to be pretty good. I got DOA4, DOA4 worked on my 50hz TV, I got to hang out with the other Fragdolls for a day, and I yielded results in the lab. (Not good results but my first since Christmas so at least it looks like I am doing some work!) I also did very mundane things like go to the pub, but that was nice too!

So there you go, my faith in punk may be broken for ever but at least I can feel like Ryu is avenging the death of my stolen dreams as I mash the joy-pad till my fingers bleed….
